BFF Date Night
In the vast world of the Internet, there are two distinct types of people: those who engage in civil discourse when encountering opposing views and those who resort to creating fake profiles to abuse others. This blog post delves into an intriguing incident where a seven-second video unexpectedly went viral, garnering 1.6 million views within a short span of time. However, the commotion surrounding the video took a dark turn, as I faced a barrage of abusive comments and death threats from angry men. This occurrence serves as a reflection of the ever-evolving nature of the online realm.
Unraveling the Video’s Phenomenon: The video in question captures a seemingly harmless scene of two friends clinking their martini glasses at a bar. With no visible faces or bodies, the video’s caption innocuously states, “Women are choosing to go on cute friends dates with their friends instead because men don’t even buy women flowers anymore. Dating is a task” However, what prompted the explosive response and virality remains a perplexing mystery. Despite its innocuous nature, the video became a catalyst for a larger conversation surrounding shifting gender dynamics, exposing the raw emotions and extreme reactions it evoked.
The Softening of Men: I have noticed on several occasions that heterosexual men appear to have become increasingly sensitive and emotional. While softness is generally embraced, this new level of emotional vulnerability seems to have surprised many. The historically dominant position men held in society has now been challenged, with women gaining independence and equal footing in various aspects of life. This blog post explores the changing dynamics of power and how it might contribute to men’s heightened emotional responses.

Redefined Value in Relationships: In the past, men have been known to ask the age old question, that hasn’t aged very well might I add seeing that women can vote and work now. Women continue to prove their capabilities in the workforce, financial contributions alone no longer hold the same significance. It leads me to really ask what is it that men truly bring to the table in modern relationships. Men (and some women) may argue that women are solely interested in men’s financial status, this overlooks the fact that anyone, regardless of gender, can achieve financial success, just get a job lol. Furthermore, the rise of single mothers and women’s increasing dissatisfaction with men’s sexual performance raises further questions about the evolving dynamics between men and women.
The Crumbling Patriarchy: Is the rise of male aggression and online harassment a result of men feeling threatened as the patriarchal structure they once benefited from begins to crumble? I am not the only woman who has been verbally abused by men behind fake profile pictures for voicing my opinions online. An angry man threatened to kill and rape me over the video in question, I can’t make this stuff up! Common insults, such as “That’s why you’ll end up old and single,” reveal deep-seated insecurities that underlie some men’s reactions. Additionally, the black community, in particular, experiences unique challenges as a new study indicates a significant disparity between black babies and black men/fathers.
Conclusion: As the internet continues to serve as a platform for diverse voices, it also exposes the raw emotions and intense reactions sparked by shifting gender dynamics. What is the root causes of men’s aggression and can we engage in civil, open and manful conversation that will help us be more inclusive and empathetic online?
