Five of the Best Cities To Visit in Florida

December 26, 2018

If you think about Florida then most people think of the sunshine, the beaches, and the theme parks. But there is much more to Florida than just Orlando; the sunshine state does offer a variety of different cities that are all offering something completely different. There are so many beaches to choose from, luxury stores and boutiques, as well as national parks and other stunning things to see. So here is a quick break down of some of the top cities to visit in Florida; if haven’t been to any of them before, even if you have.

Ok, so while there are plenty of other cities that are worth visiting, Orlando is still one of the top choices. There are theme parks and waterparks of all different varieties to choose from, as well as good shopping malls, discount malls, and plenty of great restaurants. The only thing is that it is pretty heavy with tourists, so that is something to bear in mind.

Obviously I have a soft spot for Miami, that was my scene for so many years.  I met my husband in Miami six birthdays ago, it’s perfect for a girls weekend or couples Get away. Located in the south of the state, Miami is another popular spot with tourists and locals alike. It has some really stunning beaches, as well as a pretty vibrant nightlife scene. It is quite a trendy city too, with a funky art-deco scene as well as great street food. The city is also made up of a few smaller neighborhoods such as Little Haiti and Little Havana if you are after some Caribbean flair, or the Overtown neighborhood that is rich in its African-American history, with good music and soul food.

Over on the west, Tampa is one of the biggest cities out there. Tampa is a pretty popular spot with families due to the abundance of wildlife in the area, as well as the Busch Gardens park, aquarium, and Tampa Zoo. It is a pretty busy and bustling city, so staying out in the suburb areas or looking for lodging in Plant City, Florida could be a good idea. Then it is just a short drive to the attractions. Tampa also has a large latin community that is really evident through the food and many restaurants in the city.

St. Petersburg

Near to Tampa is St. Petersburg and the Clearwater area of Florida. It is the perfect area to escape the cold winter weather, as it is has an amazing climate all year round. As a result, you can just imagine the things that there are to see and do in this area. The beaches are some of the best, with St. Pete beach being one of the most popular. Make sure that you are there early for parking, otherwise it can be pretty tricky.

The main claim to fame in Daytona is the Nascar Race that happens each February. But there is still enough to do and see the rest of the months. It has been a pretty popular spot for spring break in recent years, but is getting more popular with families because of ore attractions in the area, like the pier and the museums.

A Luxurious Timepiece Made Entirely of Wood

A Luxurious Timepiece Made Entirely of Wood

I said Made entirely of wood but if I’m being accurate it’s more 90% wood for those of us who want to be technical. I have seen Jord (pronounced Yode) watches in my instagram feed before, hmmm this is cool I thought. The more I saw it the cooler it became and I’m excited to say it’s even cooler in person. If you’ve been following me for a while you know I’m a “packaging” type of person, and Jord did not disappoint. From the shipping box, to the beautiful humidor wood box that clasps magnetically to hold this beautiful watch, I was impressed by all of the small details that they did not ignore. My watch came with the collector’s edition humidor cedar watch box, cleaning cloth and Jord preserve custom-formulated wood treatment gel. The box even has a little drawer you can store your gel or small jewelry, just about anything your heart desires as long as it fits.

There are so many different designs to choose from there is a watch for everyone. I have always been a watch girl and love wearing watches, I will not leave the house without one. These days I can always be seen wearing my apple watch, however I do like a nice watch when It’s time for special occasions, as my bulky apple watch doesn’t seem to always fit in with my fancier dresses. The watch I’m wearing is the Frankie Zebrawood and Navy (Put link to watch here) . The Zebrawood is a native of West Africa and as you can see its natural multi-tone has something to do with its name. It has a natural coarse texture and open pores, with grains that are wavy or interlocked. It is considered a luxury hard wood and is not very common.

I wore this watch everywhere for more than a week, I even wore it to the gym once just to see how I felt about it. Though I would not recommend wearing it to the gym, because it is made of wood, being continuously exposed to water or excessive sweat can damage the exterior of the watch. After all it is made of wood. The first thing I noticed was how light the watch was, so light that I forgot I was wearing it, typically when I wear my metal watches a little loose they annoy me with gravity pulling it down my wrist and me in return constantly shaking it back up to a desired position further along my wrist. It had not occurred to me how much the system annoyed me until I wore my Jord watch and realized that life did not have to be so heavy all the time, lol. I love the blue watch face against the wood and the large round face, It looks so good, my husband has even said how much he likes it and would wear it to work since it’s such a light watch. The watch is unisex and can be worn by men and women, they have men, men, women and unisex watches. I like a bigger face on a watch even though I have very small wrists.

Am I happy with my watch? I am beyond happy, would I recommend this watch 100%, do I think it’s worth it. I am a woman who I am sure by now you all know appreciates quality and I do believe that you get what you pay for with Jord. Every single detail is meticulously thought through, from how easy their website is to navigate, to the shipping and packaging all the way down to the watch itself. Jord has impressed me, I think this would make a beautiful gift to yourself or to someone else. I will be updating you later on as I wear this watch and it ages over time. I think in about two months I should be able to say more, but for now all I can say is I am in love with this beautiful wooden watch.

Memphis, Tennessee for a Slightly Different Vacation

June 15, 2018

We’re a little late for the resoundingly successful 2018 Memphis Fashion Week, but it still deserves recognition. Just like iconic Memphian musicians people know and love, the local cultural scene in Memphis, Tennessee is an exciting mix of old and new, traditional and funky, served up every single day of the year. This translates to everything from local music and art to nature attractions and, of course, the fashion scene having an eclectic vibe that you can’t find anywhere else.

As mentioned in a previous LaurenOLauren travel review, there’s something special about soaking in the sights and sounds of a city and getting to know its people… even if you do get lost once or twice along the way! This statement is especially true for Memphis, which has a long history of cultural contributions to the whole country. Nowhere is this more clear than in the world of 20th century music, with Memphians having an important role in the creation of important American music genres like country (Johnny Cash), blues (B.B. King), and good old rock n’ roll (Elvis). And us being fashion devotees, it’s fascinating to look at how music and culture  in Memphis intersect with fashion trends beyond the city borders.

One thing that’s really fascinating about The King is his enduring influence on all things music and fashion. Even 40 years after his passing, Elvis Presley’s iconic style is alive and well on runways and catwalks, from Halpern’s Autumn/Winter 2017 RTW to Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Spring/Summer 2017 Couture. While the former played up their flamboyant outfits with super-flared pants and meticulously applied sequins, the latter drew from Elvis’ cowboy outfits and fantastical motifs.

If you’re ever in Memphis, don’t pass up the chance to visit Graceland Mansion, The King’s  home 10 miles south of downtown. You will marvel at Elvis’ record collection, pink Cadillac, and even his stunning jumpsuits and other fashion-forward outfits.

All part of Elvis’ celebrity and iconic status, these images have been replicated time and again, most notably with the mansion’s merchandise selection – the largest collection of its kind in the world. It’s also present in countless other mediums, from his movies throughout the ‘60s to all manner of digital ephemera today. For instance, the gaming platform Foxy Casino pays tribute to the King through their Elvis game, which features not just the legendary musician himself, but also jukeboxes, his different outfits, and rock n’ roll music. These elements make fans and casual players “all shook up,” providing an immersive experience around the Memphian. On top of his immortalization on screen, in vinyl, and thousands of impersonators throughout the years, fans can learn about his life in full with a guided tour of Graceland. They can also pay their respects to The King at his final resting place on the mansion grounds.

The rest of the itinerary on our Memphis trip is a little less touristy, but just as immersive in art and fashion. We continue with the focus on music, but this time on Beale Street, which is home to street performers, neon signs, and Memphis-borne musicians.
As great as The King is, Memphis is even bigger than him and his music, having shaped who he was throughout his young life. Graceland’s Director of Public Relations Kevin Kern tells Travel+Leisure, “Memphis is just one of those cities that really has an organic, authentic feel to it… a city with a soul. You can hear that not only in Elvis’ music but also in the blues and soul that comes from Memphis.”

From Beale, walk a few blocks to areas like the Broad Avenue Arts District and the South Main Arts District to get your dose of public art. You can get lost among the beautiful streets that make up this vibrant city. Such creative vibe and free spirit is a great inspiration for your next outfit.
You can drop by the Main Street pedestrian mall as well, which features a new mural almost every day, thanks to local artists and students from the Memphis College of Art. These are perfect places to chat with locals and make the streets your runway. To be honest it’s a great spot to take Instagram pictures too, thank me later.

You may observe fashion the way the locals do it too, and people-watch from one of the many cafes and restaurants lining the walkways. If you’re planning a trip to Memphis, try to set your vacation in May. The city comes alive in gorgeous spring weather, and this is the time for the month-long festival, Memphis in May. The celebration that lets you experience local music, fashion, and art unlike any other occasion.  But that doesn’t mean May is the only time you should go.  Summer is here and summer anywhere is amazing, school is out and everyone is out and about, there is so much to do. So maybe this summer instead of staying home, check out Memphis and get inspired.  Have an amazing weekend everyone.

Active Is A Lifestyle Not a Trend – Stay Strong Regardless

April 19, 2018

Guys I went to Moonbay with a coworker for the first time and fell in love with nature who knew that I LaurenOLauren would one day grow to love the outdoors. Now while I will never ever go hunting, and most certainly will never go camping, I do enjoy one off days driving the scenic route to go be near the ocean and soaking up the sun. I think it’s so important to maintain and active life while you still can, so even though I might not be able to wear shoes and hiking might be a little difficult for me in slides. I still gave it a try. When my coworker invited me to come with her to a completely new place that I had never been before of course I said yes. 2018 is the year I become an adventurer, this is the year I try all kinds of new things and go everywhere I’m invited to. Im having my very own Shonda Rhimes Year of YES, and it’s been going amazing. I had so much fun, it was so beautiful It’s crazy that I came from a tropical island but never really looked at nature the way I am looking at her now. I guess living in the snow for the past few years and not having access to the beach has really made me see just how beautiful this little planet is. We are so small in comparison to everything that happens on earth and around earth, it’s just crazy to think. So I say all this to say no matter what you’re going through just remember it’s not as significant as you think it is in the grand scheme of things. Do what you can and dont worry too much and always, always analyze your situation and try to ask yourself “Am I overreacting, or is this really going to end me”?

I’ve been loving work out clothes and have tried so many again. Stronger, the brand I’m wearing in this brand is another one of my favorites. The set I’m wearing can be found on their website,

Have an amazing Thursday everyone, please let me know if you’re able to comment people have been saying they’ve been having troubles.

xoxo Lauren
