Miss Lily’s Cafe – Jamaican Food in Manhattan
My friend Najeary and I went to the famous Miss Lily’s in Manhattan one beautiful Wednesday evening after he left work and my husband and I had just finished roaming around the Meat Packing District. We were all tired and starving to death so we met up at this Miss Lily’s spot I had never heard of, but Nejeary promised it was famous.
I liked the set up it was your usual Jamaican spot but nicer and in a very nice location with great outside seating. The staff were all nice too, we sat down and got ready to order, I ordered curried vegetable stew with jasmine rice and a side of plantains. Najeary got roasted Chicken I think with rice and peas and also a side of plantains, my husband got ribs. We all ordered drinks which might have been the reason why our tab was decent. I got a glass of champagne of some sort, Najeary got a Redstripe beer which he didn’t finish and my husband got some mixed cocktail that was on the menu.
The wait for our food was not long, I was impressed I thought it was going to take Jamaican time. It was fairly busy so to get our food as quickly as we did was impressive. Our server checked up on us often enough without annoying us to death, a talent if you ask me.
But was the food any good? The food wasn’t bad I’ll be honest Najeary enjoyed his chicken my husband liked his ribs and I didnt mind my vegetable stew, I do wish they had maybe two more vegetarian options. If I’m being fair I think they only had two and one of them might have been a salad I don’t remember, but I was starving and the curried stew vegetable was the only meal option that didn’t feel like an appetizer. Our bill at the end of the night was $122, for three persons including alcohol in Manhattan I personally think that wasn’t bad, you have to take everything into account.
I would definitely recommend Miss Lily’s 7A Cafe and Rum Bar to anyone who is feeling for some Jamaican or Caribbean cuisine, I give it a 3.5 out of 5 Stars. Basically I never give five stars and giving a 4 would mean everything was perfect and I wouldn’t give them a four because they didnt have many vegetarian options. However to be fair I am not their target audience so I should cut them a break. Where are some of your favorite places to eat, let me know down below.
Check out Miss Lily’s if you ever get a chance, they’re located at – 109th Avenue A, New York, NY 10009. This was not a sponsored post and I paid for my food like every other patron. Just thought I’d let you guys know about some of my food adventures, since it is Review Friday and it’s been a while.
